Intent – At Linden House we have adopted the method of in the moment planning and combine this with both adult and child led activities to ensure that we provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum. We incorporate children’s current interests, curiosities and needs and extend on these to ensure that we cover the 7 areas of learning in the EYFS and support children on their leaning adventure and create next steps. Each room will have aspirations for their current cohort of children that will provide them with the support and challenges required to develop. These will be adapted to ensure that children with additional needs receive the same opportunities but differentiated to meet their individual learning needs and capabilities.
Implementation – At Linden House first and foremost strive to establish positive relationships with our parent/carers as we recognise them as their child’s first educators. We provide extensive paperwork in order to gather information from our parent/carers about their children to provide us with starting points and enable us to understand and plan for their children’s current needs and interests. Staff observe, listen and have quality interactions with the children, so they can catch those teachable moments and provide an environment, resources and activities that reflect this. This enables staff to provide meaningful opportunities for them to build on the children’s curiosities, interests and needs.
Impact – At Linden house we measure the impact of the above by observing children’s engagement and through reflection on what and how this could be improved. Staff and parents upload pictures and videos to Tapestry and then statements are flagged within the 7 areas of learning to demonstrate learning outcomes. We use initial assessments when children first start with us to create a starting point, termly summative assessments are carried out for staff to be able to highlight what the children are doing well and what needs support. Two-year assessments are carried out between 2-3 years and a transition assessment will be carried out for leavers so that other settings are able to provide that continuity of care and educational support. Parents are involved in every assessment process and actively encouraged to contribute.
